The School System Wasn’t Made For Children
Did you know -
Compulsory schooling started in the 1880's? For the kids that didn't want to go and the parents who knew something wasn't quite right and didn't want their children raised by someone else, militia came in and marched them to school under guard!
Do you know the true intention of forced schooling?
Back then it was to produce soldiers and slaves, in the last few decades, school is used to create employees and consumers, who are "always financially in need of money, a job, and job security." Robert Kiyosaki
Looks like they're done a pretty good job of it, wouldn't you say?
The curriculum was created as a way to fill the days. It wasn't elaborately thought out to cater to an individual child's needs. They just needed enough things to fill the day to keep kids away from their family and community, so they could recruit and coerce children into what they needed - soldiers, slaves, employees and consumers.
School isn't for kids. They know it, we feel it.
Schoolteacher for 30 years, John Taylor Gatto, questioned the system when he truly understood the damage it was doing to children;
"I feel ashamed that so many of us cannot imagine a better way to do things than locking children up all day in cells instead of letting them grow up knowing their families, mingling with the world, assuming real obligations, striving to be independent and self-reliant and free."
So now what?
I have a vision (very Martin Luther King Jr-ish, isn't it?) but I do! First step is to open yourself up to possibility of there being another way for children to learn.
Healthy Whole Humans was created for many reasons - a BIG one: we can no longer watch kids enter into a system that actively squashes their spirit, spark, and joy.
Healthy Whole Humans was created FOR kids, because the school system isn't for kids - it never was!
This is a snapshot taken from the Rockefeller General Education Board mission, written in 1906, taken from a 1906 document called Occasional Letter Number One -
“In our dreams... people yield themselves with perfect docility to our molding hands. The present education conventions [of intellectual and moral education] fade from our minds, and unhampered by tradition we work our own good will upon grateful and responsive folk. We shall not try to make these people or any of their children into philosophers or men of learning or men of science.”
In other words, they didn't want brains or talent, just obedience. Are you kidding me?!
That's not exactly what we were led to believe, is it? And I don't like being lied to.
Don't know about you, but I'm not a fan of partaking in this fuckery.
The system exists to create good obedient citizens who do what they're told, endlessly consume to keep big corporations thriving and so that you are forever in debt and reliant on a paycheck.
We've had enough of the mental, emotional and physical issues that have escalated to a point no child should endure.
We want kids to have many different experiences so they are the ones to determine what lights them up. We want kids excited about what they're learning because they're curious and interested in what they're doing. They need more than knowing it in theory, they have to live these things and experience them.
Check out our plan of action in the MANIFESTO.
How many kids do you know who like going to school (other than to see their friends)?
Did you enjoy it?
Have you heard what kids are saying about sitting in four walls, five days a week? They are telling us, please listen with your heart, it's time we did something to create a better way for them to express themselves.
All chats are on our youtube channel playlist ‘For The Kids, By The Kids.’
Our vision is for kids to experience their whole being and to teach them skills to navigate through life so they can face the future as fully functioning, healthy whole humans.
We have to create something better!
We hope you join us in making it happen.
